Lana Del Rey's 'Born to Die'

Lana Del Rey mastered getting people to talk about her. Too bad she hasn't mastered making an album yet. The blog sensation's debut "Born to Die" (Interscope) sounds half-finished. As interesting as her breakthrough "Video Games" is lyrically, its "edginess" is magnified by marketing as the "gangsta Nancy Sinatra" (though "Fiona Apple wannabe" may be more accurate) as much as it is by her vocal tics. The trick becomes less interesting the more she repeats it, which is often, or when she waters it down as in "Lolita," which veers close to Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl."
