LCD Soundsystem has announced that they plan to retire from performing after their show at Madison Square Garden on April 2.

“We are retiring from the game – getting' out, movin' on,” the Brooklyn band led by James Murphy wrote on its website. “But for just one more night, we will be playing with friends and family for nearly three hours – playing stuff we've never played before and going out with a bang.”

There has been rumbling that LCD Soundsystem's fine “This Is Happening” album was going to be their last, though that will hopefully change.

Tickets for the Madison Square Garden show go on sale Friday through Ticketmaster. Pre-sale information will be released tomorrow.

It probably shouldn't be, but this seems more upsetting than The White Stripes' breakup announcement since that seemed like a foregone conclusion.

LCD, I love you, but you're bringing me down.
