Lea Michele's first non-"Glee" single, "Cannonball" (Columbia), is a soaring pep talk, made all the more poignant by the very public loss of her boyfriend, Cory Monteith, this year.
"I was in the dark and then it hit me," she sings, over some dramatic synths. "I chose suffering and pain and the falling rain, I know."
The song, written by Sia, fits in well with the current state of pop, a good sign for the first offering from Michele's upcoming "Louder" album, due in March.
