HOT SONG
With "Run the World (Girls)" (Columbia), Beyoncé is trying to reassert herself as the kind of artist who can change the way radio sounds. B enlists producer Diplo, who samples Major Lazer's "Pon De Floor" as the song's twitchy backbone, but she can't quite bridge the gap between edgy and poppy. She might have been better off picking a lane and sticking with it -- perhaps four minutes of the call-and-response "Who run the world? Girls!"
