Wait! Kanye West has a challenger for control of the brash, electro-influenced branch of hip-hop. And, frankly, M.I.A.'s new single "Bring the Noize" (Interscope) puts her ahead of "Yeezus." The song, produced by Switch, is bursting with all sorts of dance rhythms, from clattering "Arular"-styled world beats to Missy Elliott cool to a chilled-out ending. But Maya's greatest strength is in her lyrics, declaring, "Just 'cause I'm a mom don't make me thick -- I'm an overweight, heavyweight, female Slick Rick." No arguments here.
