Metal to metal: Marilyn Manson, Rammstein

They collaborated at last month's ECHO music awards in Berlin, and this weekend the industrial-strength German band Rammstein and American shock rocker (and Johnny Depp pal) Marilyn Manson each find their way to Long Island for separate shows. Here's a look at the two acts -- Rammstein takes over Nassau Coliseum Saturday night and Manson plays the Paramount on Sunday -- with the uncanny David Lynch connection.

David Lynch connection Lynch used the songs "Heirate Mich" and "Rammstein" for the soundtrack to "Lost Highway"

Cover story The guys put out a version of Depeche Mode's "Stripped" in '98 -- their first song in English.

The controversy (There are oh so many) Well, there was the uproar over the "Antichrist Superstar" album and a number of suicides blamed on it. Then there was the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority, which tried to block Ozzfest '97 from playing Giants Stadium, because the band was taking part; a judge ruled it was unreasonable to exclude the group.

Sounds like Heavy, brooding and slick (or is that sick?)

David Lynch connection Manson and his former bassist-guitarist Twiggy Ramirez also appeared in "Lost Highway," a 1997 film.

Cover story Manson had a hit with a redo of Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)."
