Metallica drive-in concert film coming to Adventureland
Metallica fans will unite on Aug. 29 when the metal legends perform their first show of 2020 via a drive-in concert film that will be screened at Adventureland in East Farmingdale as well as hundreds of drive-in theaters across the country, presented by Encore Live.
“In all of rock, it literally doesn’t get any bigger than Metallica,” said Walter Kinzie, CEO of Encore Live. “Over the course of their career these guys have completely redefined rock, touring and frankly what’s possible in terms of success in this industry. We’ve seen with our first two Encore Nights Drive-In concerts that fans absolutely dig the drive-in experience and we know that Metallica is going to blow the top off of this thing and take it to a whole new level."
The Rock & Roll Hall of Famers will perform a brand-new show from the band's Northern California headquarters, which will get professionally mixed and edited by Metallica's production team. The set list promises to span the Grammy winners' nearly four-decade career. Three Days Grace will be the opening act.
Each ticketed vehicle will receive four digital downloads of Metallica’s new double live album, “S&M2” featuring 22 songs from its reunion concert with the San Francisco Symphony from that city's Chase Center last September. The album is a sequel to 1999’s “S&M.”
Because prior concert films from Garth Brooks on June 27 and Blake Shelton on July 25 sold out quickly, Adventureland will be opening up a second lot of 90 cars in addition to its main lot of 160 cars in order to meet demands.
The 40-by-30-foot screens are going to be elevated for clear viewing. The sound will be transmitted to attendees' vehicle radios as well as amplified from the front and back of the drive-in area.
Vehicles will be socially distanced 6 feet apart and those leaving their vehicle area are required to wear a face mask. Concessions (hamburger, hot dogs, sausage and pepper heros) will be sold and bathrooms will be available on the premises with lines monitored for spacing safety.
Tickets are $114.99 per vehicle holding up to six people. Metallica’s Fifth Member fan club members get premium access to tickets during a presale on Wednesday, Aug. 12, at noon on ticketmaster.com/encore-metallica. General-public tickets go on sale Friday at noon on the same site.
