NMEs: Hey, hey, it's the Arctic Monkeys
There's at least one upcoming music award ceremony where Adele isn't a dominating nominee: the NME Music Awards. No, that honor goes to the Arctic Monkeys.
The group is up for best British band, best live band, best album ("Suck It and See"), best track ("The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala"), best video and best album art in the U.K. music bible's annual awards, which will be announced Feb. 29 at the O2 Academy Brixton.
"We're up for all the big ones -- we're very happy," drummer Matt Helders told Reuters. "That's all we do, record or play live, so it's good to be recognized!"
But don't fear, Adele fans! She is up for best solo artist. Oh, and Lana Del Rey is also in there a few times. The shortlists were decided by about 8 million public votes.
Here are some of the other categories and their nominees:
BEST INTERNATIONAL BAND Arcade Fire; Foo Fighters; Justice; Odd Future (OFWGKTA); The Strokes
BEST NEW BAND Foster the People; Lana Del Rey; Tribes; The Vaccines; Wu Lyf
DANCE FLOOR ANTHEM Azealia Banks' "212"; Foster the People's "Pumped Up Kicks"; Justice's "Civilization"; Katy B's "Broken Record"; Metronomy's "The Bay"
