Patti Smith to headline new Escape 2 New York fest

Patti Smith, Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros, the Psychedelic Furs and The Vaccines top the list of acts confirmed for the inaugural Escape 2 New York Festival, at the Shinnecock Reservation in Southampton from Aug. 5-7.
“The Escape 2 New York team believes more is possible from a gathering of connected kindred spirits than bar sales and marketing opportunities,” says the event's executive producer, Fred Fellowes. He created the Secret Garden Party, a similar festival in England. “It is very exciting to have an opportunity to start this annual party in the state of New York with the Shinnecock.”
Escape 2 New York, which will also include installation and performance art, experimental theater, and what organizers hope will be “the world's biggest brunch” at a festival, is set for the weekend before the inaugural MTK: Music to Know Festival in Easthampton, leading to a busy August of music on the East End.
Also on the bill the first two days of the festival are Best Coast, White Rabbits, The Postelles, and Au Revoir Simone. Acts for the festival's third day and its DJ tent will be announced in the coming weeks.
Tickets are $106 for each day and $289 for the weekend through the festival website escape2ny.com.
