The Polyphonic Spree still stands 22 members strong, but on "Yes, It's True," it often gets pretty hard to hear what they're all doing.

On the straightforward rock of "Hold Yourself Up" and "You Don't Know Me," leader Tim DeLaughter sounds like he's channeling his previous band, Tripping Daisy, more than Polyphonic Spree's usual orchestral bombast. However, the biggest surprise may be the new wavish "Popular by Design," which recalls the minimalistic dance classic "Boy," by Book of Love, but still manages to keep the band's distinctive sound through its gang vocals. And, of course, the Spree message of positivity remains intact.
