R.I.P. Charlie Louvin (1927-2011)

 The great Charlie Louvin, the Country Music Hall of Famer and star of the Grand Ole Opry as part of the Louvin Brothers and as a solo singer, died this morning at his Tennessee home from complications with pancreatic cancer. He was 83.
    
Louvin's high, lovely harmonies with his brother, Ira, helped them top the country charts in 1956 with “I Don't Believe You've Met My Baby.” He had hits of his own, including a Top 10 single in 1964 with “I Don't Love You Anymore,” however, Louvin continued to inspire generations of singers, both in rock and country, through his work at the Grand Ole Opry.
    
He saw a career resurgence in 2003, when stars including James Taylor, Vince Gill and Dolly Parton recorded a tribute album “Livin', Lovin', Losin': Songs of the Louvin Brothers” and Louvin went on tour opening for Cake.
    

He recorded several albums for Tompkins Square, including last year's “The Battle Rages On.”
    

He will be missed.
