Aww. Rihanna sounds happy again! After an understandably dark period with all her talk of “Russian Roulette” and standing there and watching her burn, Rihanna’s new single “Only Girl (In the World)” (Def Jam) is upbeat and dancey. The Stargate-produced track amps up the Europop feel of the “Rude Boy” remixes, as well as the bpms. “I want you to love me like I’m a hot pie,” Rihanna purrs, before busting out her house music diva voice on the chorus. It’s more “Shut Up and Drive” than “Umbrella,” but it’s also a welcome breath of fresh air after the mostly clenched sounds of her “Rated R” album.
Rihanna announced that “Only Girl,” which was released to radio today, is the lead single from her forthcoming fifth album “Loud,” set for a Nov. 16 release. (Oddly, it’s only streaming on Ryan Seacrest’s site and not hers. You can hear it here.)
