Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to induct Joan Jett, Lou Reed, more

Long Beach’s Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and Freeport native Lou Reed lead the 2015 class of Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees, along with punk trio Green Day, soul singer Bill Withers, and blues bands Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble and the Paul Butterfield Blues Band.

Ringo Starr will receive the Award for Musical Excellence and the “Dedicated to the One I Love” group The “5” Royales will be inducted as an early influence.

“I've set myself up to not expect it because it's easier to go about your life that way, just focusing on your life,” Jett told Rolling Stone. “If accolades come, they do and you don't have to stress out about it. I've always been hopeful because I think it's an incredible acknowledgment. I'm very proud to be with all these great musicians.”

Jett got the chance to be part of the Rock Hall inductions this year at the Barclays Center when she performed with inductees Nirvana, filling in for the late Kurt Cobain on “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”

The late Reed was already inducted into the Rock Hall inductee in 1996 as part of the Velvet Underground. This induction is for his solo work.

Artists are eligible for induction 25 years after their first release and both Green Day and Vaughan & Double Trouble were chosen in their first year of eligibility.

The inductions will be held at Cleveland’s Public Hall on April 18. Tickets are $75-$300 and go on sale at 10 a.m. Thursday through Ticketmaster. Information about whether it will be televised has not been released.
