Sinead O'Connor cancels tour, Paramount show

Sinead O'Connor has canceled her 2012 tour, including her May 20 scheduled stop at The Paramount in Huntington, saying she is "very unwell" due to her bipolar disorder.

“As you all know I had a very serious breakdown between December and March and I had been advised by my doctor not to go on tour but didn't want to 'fail' or let anyone down as the tour was already booked to coincide with album release,” O'Connor said in a statement this morning. “So very stupidly, I ignored his advice to my great detriment, attempting to be stronger than I actually am. I apologize sincerely for any difficulties this may cause.”

O'Connor grabbed headlines in December after announcing that she was splitting from her husband after 18 days, though they later reconciled. In January, she revealed that she had attempted suicide in Los Angeles, but had then received treatment.

Her album “How About I Be Me (And You Be You)” was released in February and, despite her personal troubles, was seen as a return to form, her strongest work since her breakthrough album “I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got” in 1990, which included the chart-topping “Nothing Compares 2 U.”

No word on whether O'Connor will reschedule the tour. Refunds for The Paramount show are available at the point of purchase.
