Taking Back Sunday, EPMD to be inducted into Long Island Music Hall of Fame
Celebrate Long Island's rich music history when a diverse group of performers and music industry leaders are inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame, Thursday, Nov. 8. Artists arrive for a red-carpet entry from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m., followed by the induction awards ceremony and performances at The Space at Westbury. Long Island rock icon Billy Joel will induct longtime guitarist Tommy Byrnes and singer-songwriter Elliott Murphy. Public Enemy's Chuck D will join DJ Chuck Chillout to induct rappers EPMD.

Indie rockers Taking Back Sunday, rappers EPMD and singer-songwriter Jimmy Webb will lead the slate of performers inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame this year.
The full slate of inductees is set to be unveiled Tuesday at a news conference at The Space at Westbury, where the induction gala will be held on Nov. 8. This year’s inductees, chosen for their contributions to Long Island’s music history, will also include two Brooklyn natives — New York radio legend Bruce “Cousin Brucie” Morrow, and music executive Seymour Stein, who discovered everyone from Talking Heads and the Ramones to Madonna.
All the inductees are expected to attend this year’s gala, which will also mark the introduction of the “LI Hired Gun Award,” given to some of the most important sidemen in music. The first recipients will be Tommy Byrnes, Billy Joel’s longtime guitarist, and jazz trumpeter Glenn Drewes, who has played with everyone from Dizzy Gillespie to Puff Daddy and has been part of “Sesame Street” for years.
"This year's nominees represent a diverse collection of musical genres and music industry professionals,” Long Island Music Hall of Fame Chairman Ernie Canadeo said in a statement. “From legendary songwriters and performers, classic rock bands, and hip-hop artists to groundbreaking DJs and influential music company executives, the 2018 nominees are among the most exciting in our history."
Taking Back Sunday, formed in Amityville in 1999, quickly became Long Island’s biggest rock band – scoring four Top 10 albums, including “Louder Now,” which hit No. 2 in 2006, and two Top 10 singles on Billboard’s alternative charts.
Brentwood’s EPMD, the duo of Erick Sermon and Parrish Smith, are celebrating the 30th anniversary of their landmark hip-hop album “Strictly Business” this year, as Sermon readies his upcoming solo album “Vernia.”
Bayville’s Webb, best known for writing classics such as “MacArthur Park” and a string of hits for Glen Campbell including “By the Time I Get to Phoenix.”

He is currently in the middle of a headlining tour, which includes a stop at My Father’s Place at The Roslyn Hotel on Oct. 7.
Ticket information for the gala is also expected to be released on Tuesday.
