Adam Lazzara, lead singer for Rockville Centre-based rock band Taking Back Sunday, is lucky to be alive after a tree fell on him over the weekend when he went for a smoke break outside a Michigan recording studio.
The tree, which apparently blew over in the wind, shattered his left leg, which will be in a cast for at least a month.
TMZ first reported the incident Monday.
Lazzara posted a photo on his Twitter feed about 5:30 a.m. Saturday saying, "Extra swollen foot. Just leaving the hospital now, what a long story paired with such a long night."
The band's rep at Warner Bros. Records said Monday that Lazzara was recuperating in bed and the band's scheduled tour of Australia, due to start in April, was still on. The group -- which a few years ago reunited its classic "Tell All Your Friends" lineup of guitarists John Nolan and Eddie Reyes, drummer Mark O'Connell and bassist Shaun Cooper -- was at Rancho Recordo in Fenton, Mich., writing new material, the rep said.
Taking Back Sunday last played Long Island in December at a sold-out Paramount in Huntington.
