The CMA live-blog
Will the recently engaged Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton be the first couple of the Country Music Awards tonight?
10:54 p.m. Entertainer of the Year is an emotional Brad Paisley. Geez, Miranda was robbed, though she did have a pretty good haul for the evening, winning four awards. Her fiance Blake Shelton landed two awards.
10:48 p.m. Blake Shelton and Trace Adkins won Musical Event of the Year.
10:44 p.m. Gwyneth Paltrow handles herself pretty well on "Country Strong" with Vince Gill. How gutsy is she to launch this song on the CMAs?
10:38 p.m. Miranda Lambert wins Female Vocalist of the Year. "I don't know what's going on," she said. "I just told Blake we oughta go to church."
10:35 p.m. Oh man, I could listen to Miss Loretta all night. So could Sheryl and Miranda who were all smiles when she walked onstage.
10:32 p.m. Miranda Lambert and Sheryl Crow take on Loretta Lynn's "Coal Miner's Daughter" from the stunning new tribute album.
10:31 p.m. "Loretta Lynn defines down-home excellence," says Sissy Spacek. So true!
10:23 p.m. Dierks Bentley's bluegrass revival "Up on the Ridge" actually sounds better live
10:19 p.m. What is going on with Carrie Underwood? "Mama's Song" sounds a bit wobbly and she's singing it in a weird voice bordering on baby talk. Um, help?
10:11 p.m. The Band Perry gets to play a bit of "If I Die Young" before giving the radio station awards
10:10 p.m. Blake Shelton wins Male Vocalist of the Year. Reba in tears.
10:03 p.m. The home stretch! Why does Lady Antebellum's "Hello World" sound like a Neil Diamond song -- and not in a good way?
9:57 p.m. Miranda Lambert won Video of the Year for "The House That Built Me"
9:55 p.m. Another non-surprise! Sugarland wins Vocal Duo of the Year
9:50 p.m. Brad Paisley unveils "This Is Country Music," which is more than a little patronizing, but gets the crowd on its feet like it's The National Anthem
9:44 p.m. Wow, that was a mess! Kid Rock is quite the lowlight.
9:40 p.m. Kid Rock is straining on "Born Free," which sounds like rewarmed Bob Seger
9:37 p.m. Miranda Lambert's "Revolution" wins Album of the Year. "Thank you so much for loving it too," she says. How could we not?
9:33 p.m. Kelly Clarkson is sounding great with Jason Aldean on "Don't You Wanna Stay." Yes, this is Aldean's breakthrough pop moment.
9:22 p.m. Reba is bringing it on Beyonce's "If I Were a Boy"
9:21 p.m. Keith Urban's rocking "Put You in a Song" has been a highlight of the night so far.
9:13 p.m. Mac MacAnally won musician of the year.
9:11 p.m. Lady A gets vocal group of the year, beating especially tough competition from Zac Brown, Rascal Flatts
9:06 p.m. Sugarland lost a bit of the island feel to "Stuck on You," but the song is still undeniable
9:01 p.m. Taylor Swift has a massive set and huge string section for the lovely "Back to December." Million-plus in a week sure has its privileges.
8:55 p.m. Four minutes for Chesney! The long guitar solo would actually have been kinda cool to hear.
8:51 p.m. Start the clock! How much of the six-minute-plus "Boys of Fall" will Kenny Chesney get to sing?
8:47 p.m. Zac Brown Band holds its own with the great Alan Jackson on "As She's Walking Away"
8:41 p.m. In an award that surprises no one, Zac Brown Band wins best new artist. Kinda wish Easton Corbin had a chance, though.
8:40 p.m. Oh George Strait, so classy as usual, with "The Breath You Take."
8:33 p.m. Miranda Lambert is rocking through "That's the Way That the World Goes Round," jumping in her heels and trying not to get lost in the smoke. Amazing!
8:26 p.m. Blake Shelton is getting his swagger on for "All About Tonight," all the more impressive after Paisley & Underwood's awkward song about his choice of engagement ring for Miranda Lambert.
8:22 p.m. Song of the year goes to Miranda Lambert's "The House That Built Me," which is well deserved.
8:17 p.m. Man, the Rascal Flatts single "Why Wait" is catchy.
8:12 p.m. Single of the year goes to Lady A for "Need You Now."
8:09 p.m. Brad Paisley gets some good mileage out of confusing Lady Antebellum with Lady Gaga. I think a country version of "Alejandro" might actually work.
8:07 p.m. Gwyneth Paltrow gets some screen time.
8:02 p.m. Carrie Underwood is screaming this song. I'm not sure why.
8 p.m. Here we go, Country Music Awards. Miranda Lambert leads the night with nine nominations and she deserves every single one.
