Battle Round 2 of “The Voice” doesn't quite have the cliff-hangers of the first battle round, but it still serves up some pretty interesting match-ups. Of course, next week will be even more interesting since it looks like Selden's Raquel Castro will be heading into battle on Team Christina. Here's the breakdown:
Team Cee-Lo: Tje Austin vs. Nakia, “Closer”
Round 2 of the Battle Rounds starts off with a doozy.
Ne-Yo's “Closer” is practically tailor-made for Tje, but he stays so true to the original that he doesn't really get to show what he can do. Nakia, on the other hand, stomps his way through it, using his big voice to bludgeon Tje.

Team Blake: Elenowen vs. Jared Blake, “Ain't No Mountain High Enough”
Jared sings well, but a bit behind the beat. He's got a surprising amount of charisma, though, and a James Durbin-esque tail. He shouldn't really stand a chance against the cute newlyweds, who just exude sweetness and light and pretty harmony, but he makes it interesting. It's a testament to the show's credo of simply focusing on the voice that Jared pulls this out against the cute couple.

Team Adam: Javier Colon vs. Angela Wolff, “Stand By Me”
Angela was sweet and her vocals were good, but she was no competition for Javier, who used his broad range and amazing control to turn the simple “Stand By Me” into something soulful and emotional.

Team Christina: Beverly McClellan vs. Justin Grennan, “Baba O'Riley”
Like last week, the battlers that collaborated the most also put on the best performance.
Maybe it's because she knew she had it in the bag or because she's just that kind of person, but Beverly seemed to go out of her way to help Justin out. He did well, but she simply knocked it out of the park with a frantic energy that didn't affect the clarity of her voice. They got a standing ovation from Cee Lo, but Beverly was clearly the star.
