Night 4 of “The Voice” Battle Rounds showed how success in the music industry often boils down to the smallest of differences. Here's how the night broke down:
TEAM BLAKE: Liz Davis vs. Nicole Johnson
Sometimes experience can be a problem. Liz Davis and Nicole Johnson are very similar country singers, with the key difference being that Davis is 25 and has been working Nashville for seven years, while Johnson is 18 and just starting out. On Miranda Lambert's “Baggage Claim,” Johnson's sassiness and freshness worked best, while Davis' polish (and breath control, apparently) did not really help the song. Blake didn't agree.
BLAKE'S PICK: Liz
SHOULD'VE WON: Nicole
TEAM ADAM: Alessandra Guercio vs. Kayla Nevarez
The battle of the 17-year-olds turned out to be as good as expected. They both have a lot of potential and some small issues, though I'd give the very slight edge to Kayla's grit over Alessandra's more studied power on Katy Perry's “Wide Awake.” Christina gives Alessandra a second chance by stealing her.
ADAM'S PICK: Kayla
SHOULD'VE WON: Kayla
CHRISTINA STEALS: Alessandra
TEAM CEE LO: Ben Taub vs. Mycle Wastman
The abbreviated battles are necessary to keep the show on track, but they do seem unfair since we really have no idea what these singers can and can't do without a full performance.
CEE LO'S PICK: Mycle
SHOULD'VE WON: ???
TEAM ADAM: Michelle Brooks-Thompson vs. Adanna Duru
Looked like a great battle. Too bad we didn't see it.
ADAM'S PICK: Michelle
SHOULD'VE WON: ???
TEAM CHRISTINA: Beat Frequency vs. Laura Vivas
Another duo goes down.
CHRISTINA'S PICK: Laura
SHOULD'VE WON: ???
TEAM CEE LO: Emily Earle vs. MacKenzie Bourg
Two adorable kids singing an adorable song, Owl City's “Good Time.” They couldn't go wrong. They each should advance for different reasons, but MacKenzie does seem to have more potential and more to offer.
CEE LO'S PICK: MacKenzie
SHOULD'VE WON: MacKenzie
