Taking Back Sunday is celebrating the launch of its fall tour this week by unveiling the live version of what should be their upcoming single “Flicker Fade.”

After seeing so many cellphone videos of the song online, the Rockville Centre-based band decided to post the version recorded at Starland Ballroom last month for broadcast by AXS.tv. “We're glad people are so enthusiastic and want to share the music from their point of view and we thought it would also be nice to see it and hear it from this perspective,” bassist Shaun Cooper said in a statement.

It’s quite the present for fans, waiting for the band to release its new album in the spring on Hopeless Records.

“Flicker Fade” finds some of the alt-folk that Adam Lazzara loves so much seeping into the verses, while the chorus is as big and rocking as anything the band has done. The song builds to a bridge that features Lazzara and guitarist/singer John Nolan trading lines/screams like they did on “Tell All Your Friends,” but with a heavier backdrop built by Cooper, drummer Mark O’Connell and guitarist Eddie Reyes.

The song is the first to leak out from the band’s upcoming sixth album, produced by Mike Sapone on Long Island and Marc Jacob Hudson of Saves the Day fame.

Taking Back Sunday’s fall tour starts Friday in Clifton Park, N.Y., and wraps up Nov. 7 at Emporium in Patchogue.
