Woodstock co-creator Michael Lang is planning a three-day event in Watkins Glen, N.Y., to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the music festival in August, according to Rolling Stone.
“It’ll be an eclectic bill,” Lang told the magazine, though he declined to name specific acts. “It’ll be hip-hop and rock and some pop and some of the legacy bands from the original festival.”
When Lang was inducted into the Long Island Music Hall of Fame in November, he said he was considering a festival, but that plans had not been finalized. He told Rolling Stone that 40 acts had already been booked for the show, running between Aug. 16 and 18 and that tickets will go on sale in February.
Woodstock 50 will be the same weekend as the 50th anniversary festival set for the original site in Bethel, N.Y. Artists and speakers for that gathering have also not been announced yet.
Lang told Rolling Stone that bringing his festival to Bethel wasn’t possible. “They’re good stewards of the original site and they built a beautiful performing arts pavilion,” he said. “But it’s a 15,000-seat shed. That’s not a Woodstock.”
