BY TRAIN&nbsp;The <a href="http://lirr42.mta.info/stationInfo.php?id=53">Long Island Rail Road’s Oyster Bay</a> line is the best way to get to the festival. The train literally lets passengers out at the park's entrance, and service is expanded for the weekend. Or&nbsp;take the LIRR to Syosset and hop on a free shuttle bus&nbsp;to the festival. There's even a discounted roundtrip ticket that includes five free oysters on-the-half-shell.&nbsp; 
BY CAR&nbsp;There's free designated parking at the James H. Vernon Middle School on Route 106 in East Norwich or&nbsp;Mill-Max Manufacturing Corp. on Route 106 in Oyster Bay. From there, take the free Oyster Festival shuttle that drops people off at the festival entrance. Handicapped parking and individual handicapped&nbsp;shuttle service is offered at Spring and West Main streets in Oyster Bay. 
BY BOAT Those coming into Oyster Bay Harbor must call ahead to the Oyster Bay Marine&nbsp;Center (516-624-2400 = VHF 71) or Sagamore Yacht Club (516-922-0555 = VHF 78A) to reserve a mooring.

BLUE POINT BEER GARDEN – This year beer will officially be served at the Oyster Festival by title sponsor Blue Point Brewing Company&nbsp;of Patchogue. For those 21 and over, all brew must be consumed inside the Blue Point Beer Garden tent, which will overlook Oyster Bay Harbor at the end of the Food Court and near the Main Stage. Blue Point will serve six different styles including flagship beer Toasted Lager, seasonal Mother Pumpkin Ale and special batch beer, Oyster Fest IPA. All those who enter the beer garden tent must present valid ID and wear a wristband. 
NAO SANTA MARIA – A replica of Christopher Columbus’ Santa Maria ship from 1492 will be in port at the Waterfront Center dock on West End Avenue. The 200 ton, three-mast vessel was built in Spain by Nao Victoria Foundation two years ago. Tours will be offered throughout both Saturday and Sunday during the festival. 
CLASSIC CAR SHOW – Oyster Bay Cruise Night and NY Autofest have joined forces to put together a Classic Car Show on lower Audrey Avenue, to the right of the Derby-Hall Memorial Bandstand featuring more than 100 cars on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Visitors can actively vote for their favorite automobile and awards will be distributed at the end of the day. A DJ will spin hits from the ‘50s to the ‘80s. Entry for spectators is free while each car entry is $20. &nbsp; 
<h2>WHAT TO EAT Something for everyone&nbsp;</h2> 
People come to the Oyster Festival hungry and ready to feast. While the event celebrates the mollusk harvested in the harbor, the food court menu features&nbsp;more than 100 items. Here’s how it breaks down:

SHOPPING&nbsp;For a break from the crowds and outdoor weather, duck into the arts and&nbsp;crafts tents featuring more than 100 vendors. Everything from&nbsp;jewelry and gourmet foods to&nbsp;candles, soaps, lotions, clothing, woodwork, glassware and&nbsp;potpourri will be for sale. 
SCAVENGER HUNT Renaissance Properties will host a scavenger hunt by distributing maps. Each contestant&nbsp;can&nbsp;earn points by deciphering&nbsp;clues and&nbsp;visiting certain areas of the festival grounds. The one with the most points wins $250. 
<h2>LIVE MUSIC Tribute bands and&nbsp;original artists&nbsp;</h2> 
Don’t leave without catching at least one set of live music, which is part of the fabric of the festival. There’s a style to suit every taste.

DRESS Choose clothes&nbsp;that are&nbsp;warmer than you think you'll need&nbsp;because the festival is along the shore of Oyster Bay Harbor, where temperatures might be&nbsp;10 degrees cooler than inland. Hoodies and turtlenecks are key layers. 
TAKE THE TRAIN It may sound like a hassle, but it’s easy. Park and ride the Long Island Rail Road, which offers expanded service, from East Williston, Albertson, Roslyn, Greenvale, Glen Head, Sea Cliff, Glen Street, Glen Cove or Locust Valley, and head to the last stop: Oyster Bay. The train will drop passengers off right in the middle of the festival, and every activity is walkable from there. 
EAT FIRST Get to the booths before the lines get long. The food is hearty, so skip breakfast. The menu features more than 130 items. 
BRING CASH Everything is cash, though some of the arts and crafts vendors accept credit cards. ATMs are available on-site in the food court and in&nbsp;the carnival area at&nbsp;Fireman’s Field. 
LOCATE BATHROOMS &amp; REST STOPS Despite all the walking and bustling through crowds, there are areas to rest and use the facilities. Two fields of portable restrooms are situated&nbsp;on West End Avenue and north of the arts and&nbsp;crafts tents. Seating is available throughout both parts of the food court and near the Main Stage. There’s even a baby-changing station on West End Avenue, across from the West End Avenue Stage, stocked with Babyganics products.

One of the most popular events of the year on Long Island — the Oyster Festival — returns to Oyster Bay next month with new elements, including beer, wine and a VIP area. The annual event is expected to draw nearly 200,000 people to Theodore Roosevelt Memorial Park Oct. 13-14. 
For its 35th anniversary, organizers announced Wednesday, the festival will stay open an hour later — until 7 p.m. on Oct. 13, and that Saturday will conclude with a fireworks display over Oyster Bay Harbor. 
Many of the festival’s traditional elements are returning, such as oyster-eating and shucking contests, arts and crafts tents and the large food court featuring more than 100 specialties, ranging from lobster banh mi sandwiches and fried oysters to Southern fried chicken and bacon on a stick. 
New this year: A beer and wine tasting tent. Five breweries and three wineries will offer 2-ounce samples to ticketed attendees who must be 21 or over. For $45, guests receive six tickets for six tastes or 12 tastes for $75. Tickets are limited to 800 per day. 
“This is for the beer or wine connoisseur who really enjoys the experience and wants to hear the story behind each selection,” says event producer Harlan Friedman, adding that the area will have its own enclosure and security. The Oyster Festival had traditionally been an alcohol-free event. 
“The reason the festival went dry years ago was because it was being run differently,” Friedman says. “We recognize there’s a want and need for it at the festival. So many people have been asking, ‘Where can I get a beer? Where can I get a glass of wine?’ We want to service everybody, but in a safe and sensible manner.” 
Those who want to avoid the crowd can purchase a ticket to a new VIP lounge overlooking the water, near the food court and main music stage. Guests in the 2,500-square-foot area will get complimentary soft drinks and freshly shucked oysters, private bathrooms and access to lawn games, among other concierge services and preferred parking perks, being designed by concerts and events promoter Live Nation. Prices start at $99 and are limited to 200 people each day. 
“Every kind of event like this today has a VIP area where guests go to escape. We felt it was time to start offering it here,” Friedman says. 
Tickets for the wine and beer tent and VIP experiences go on sale Sept. 24, beginning at noon, via <a href="http://theoysterfestival.org/gsjk4zatiterww33onsbrdpssimgi1">theoysterfestival.org</a>. 
The festival’s main stage will host tribute bands saluting the music of Crosby, Stills &amp; Nash (Four Way Street), Aerosmith (Pump), the Beatles (Penny Lane) and The Beach Boys (Endless Summer). Meanwhile, DJ Theo will take over the West End Avenue Stage noon to 5 p.m. Oct. 14 with a New Wave dance party complete with dance troupes and live art installations. 
Says Friedman, “It will bring a little bit of that Williamsburg feel to the festival.”

The 33rd annual Oyster Festival, presented by the Oyster Bay Rotary Club, returns to the hamlet of Oyster Bay Oct. 15-16 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. rain or shine. More than 150,000 attended last year. 
Among this year’s highlights: The 170-foot-tall ship El Galeón from Spain will be docked in the harbor for fee-based tours. Entertainment includes performances from illusionist Special Head (Danny Wolverton) from “America’s Got Talent” as well as singer Jerome Bell from “American Idol.” 
Shellfish fans can try their hand at oyster shucking and eating contests Oct. 15. The festival food court returns with booths serving oyster stew, oysters on the half shell, fried oysters and the newly added lobster mac and cheese, among many other offerings.

From snapping selfies and action shots to capturing poses on the beach and fireworks, we found the best tips to help you take better photos and videos on your phone. Take a look: 
1. Zoom with your feet. Zooming with your phone will reduce image quality and, if you’re shooting video, make shakiness more prevalent. Instead, walk closer to your subject. 
2. Find an interesting angle. Pointing and shooting will only get you so far — get low, take a step to the right, do something else besides shooting your subject flat on. 
3. Set your focus and exposure with a tap. Beach shots can be too bright, especially when a light-colored shirt or pasty skin is in your view finder. If you tap on the brightest spot of your photo, your iPhone will dial down the exposure. Tapping on your subject will set the focus, as well. 
4. Get close when shooting video. Wind and distance are not friends with the little mic in your mobile device. Get close to your subject for a clearer sound. 
5. Know the rule of thirds. Video and stills look better when you don’t place your subject dead center in a photo (most of the time — creative license may overrule this). Imagine a grid on your screen that breaks it into three equal parts wide and three equal parts tall. Always place your subject on one of the lines in the grid. 
6. Avoid using flash, if possible. It often just creates a bad lighting experience, and people get red-eye. Try to get the subject in some kind of natural light — if you’re outside, maybe just find a street light and use the editing tools built into your phone. You can also use an app like Instagram to play around with the brightness and contrast. You can even add special effects. If you have to use the flash, try to put a piece of printer paper over the flash to diffuse the light and reduce redeye. 
7. Avoid using the zoom. It can make the image blurry. If you can’t physically get closer, it’s better to just take the photo and then zoom into whatever you want to focus on by cropping. 
8. Be sure to focus. This may seem obvious, but always give your phone a few seconds to focus to avoid blurry photos. 
9. Adjust the brightness. One trick for making details in your photos “pop” is to adjust the brightness after taking the picture. Look for the “light” setting on your iPhone. This will make shots look more dramatic. 
10. Choose horizontal. Horizontal photos are usually better than vertical ones, but if you plan to upload the picture to Instagram, be mindful that people on the ends of a wide shot could get cut off. So either leave extra space in the photo or shoot vertically. 
11. Try a photo app. Free apps like photo gene, or, if you have iOS7 or later, use the edit button and the magic-wand tool to tune brightness, vibrance, saturation and more. 
12. Hold your phone horizontally when shooting video. Holding the phone sideways allows for full-screen shots without the two black bars you would get if shooting vertically. 
13. Don’t take photos in front of windows if indoors. Shooting in a dark area in front of a light source will make the subject “backlit” — the camera will focus on the light source rather than the subject. This also applies on bright and sunny days, and when shooting sunsets. 
14. Be mindful of Instagram filters. Don’t oversaturate or over-sharpen your images. They may look OK on your phone, but when they’re blown up on a computer or on Facebook, they look grainy, pixelated and over-edited. Too much filter is a no-no. 
15. Take better selfies. Never look down into a camera held below your face. That results in notoriously unflattering poses. But hey, if you can pull it off, go for it.
