Who says you have to spend a lot to make a blockbuster? The 1978 hit movie "Halloween" was made on a budget of just $320,000, yet worldwide it earned more than $70 million, becoming the top-grossing independent film of the time.

We feel sorry for Jamie Lee Curtis, who was paid just $8,000 to star in the film, which became a horror classic. It was her first full-length feature film, and director John Carpenter considered it a fitting tribute to Alfred Hitchcock to cast Curtis in the movie; her mom was Janet Leigh, who starred in the classic Hitchcock horror film Psycho.
