Rick Fox, Cheryl Burke and the beauty of live TV

Before Margaret Cho got booted off "Dancing With the Stars" this week, we were treated to a delightful error in listening.

In the over-produced world that is reality tv decision-making, Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke failed to listen. Guess standing up there on stage for so long really does take its toll.

"Dancing" hosts Tom Bergeron and Brooke Burke first announced that the next couple that was safe in the competition was Derek Hough and Jennifer Grey. No surprise there.

In their next breath, Bergeron and Burke said "The next couple that is in jeopardy is . . . Rick Fox and Cheryl Burke."

Fox and Burke celebrated. The crowd cheered. Clearly, the only people in the room paying attention were Bergeron and Brooke Burke. Once I stopped laughing at the gaffe, I rewound the DVR and heard Burke and Bergeron yelling "In jeopardy! In jeopardy! In jeopardy!"

Ahh, the sweet excitement of live television.
