Shaggy’s new video a salute to those who serve

Shaggy pays tribute to his time spent in the Marines during Operation Desert Storm in the video for his new single “That Love” (Brooklyn Knights/Ranch).
“’That Love’ is dedicated to our servicemen and women who are deployed from their loved ones,” the reggae superstar who splits his time between Valley Stream and Jamaica told Vibe. “Sacrifices are made on both sides, military personnel and dependents. I personally have felt that being deployed in the first Gulf War and being away from my loved ones. We give thanks for their service. Semper Fi.”
In the video, Shaggy shows how members of the military thousands of miles from home have tried to keep in contact with loved ones over several generations, from writing letters to today’s videochats.
The video matches the song’s multigenerational feel, mixing big-band harmonies with a dance beat and Shaggy’s reggae-influenced delivery, both rapping on the verses and singing the catchy chorus of “I miss your love, love, love.”
The result works well, with “That Love” already topping Billboard’s reggae singles chart for two weeks and a push underway to help the song cross over to pop radio.
