Producers of the Pulitzer Prize-winning metafictional musical "A Strange Loop," which opened on Broadway in April and weeks later won Tony Awards for best musical and best book of a musical, announced Tuesday that it will close on Jan. 15.

Making its world premiere Off-Broadway through Playwrights Horizons in 2019, playwright-composer Michael R. Jackson's work won two Obie Awards before earning 11 Tony nominations when it transferred to Broadway.

Jaquel Spivey in his Broadway debut plays Usher, "a black, queer writer writing a musical about a black, queer writer writing a musical about a black, queer writer," per the description at the show's website. "A young artist grappling with desires, identity and instincts he both loves and loathes … Usher wrestles with the thoughts in his head, brought to life on stage" as the personifications Thoughts 1 to 6.

“Though 'A Strange Loop' is not autobiographical, it is my life's work,' Jackson, 41, said in a statement. "As such, I feel so blessed to have had the opportunity to share this raw, vulnerable and personal story with the world and to have connected with so many enthusiastic, loving audiences."

Directed by Stephen Brackett, "A Strange Loop" began its 13 Broadway previews at the Lyceum Theatre on April 14. Upon closing, the show will have played 301 performances.
