Aaron Tveit, new 'Romeo,' plus more theater buzz

THE DEAL Many well-known singers have performed at 54 Below since it opened almost a year ago, but it was Aaron Tveit, now best known for playing Enjolras in the "Les Misérables" movie, who managed to break the venue's record for selling out all his upcoming concerts in record time. When tickets for two additional performances went on sale after the first four sold out, they were gone five minutes later.

THE PLAY "Romeo and Juliet"
THE DEAL Although a new production of "Romeo and Juliet" with Elizabeth Olsen will play Off-Broadway's Classic Stage Company in the fall, it was announced last week that a separate production of the romantic tragedy will open on Broadway in September, starring Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad. Director David Leveaux intends it to be an interracial production, where all the Montagues are white and the Capulets are black.
THE MUSICAL "Ever After"
THE DEAL The long-in-development musical version of the Cinderella-inspired film "Ever After" (not to be confused with the current Broadway production of "Rodgers & Hammerstein's Cinderella") will receive a workshop production in the coming weeks. The show is now to be directed by Kathleen Marshall ("Anything Goes"). Doug Hughes ("Doubt") was previously attached to the project.

THE DEAL "Totally Tubular Time Machine," a club-scene theatrical event where actors dress up like pop icons from the late '80s on, will be enhanced this Saturday by the addition of the Merrick-raised Gibson to the cast. She apparently will be joined at Culture Club by a Gibson look-alike, circa 1989.

THE PLAY "Prince of Broadway"
THE DEAL The revue celebrating the career of director-producer Hal Prince that has been postponed as many times as "Rebecca" at this point, has again been delayed. In a statement to Playbill.com, its producers blamed the change on the difficulty of coordinating the schedules of everyone involved in the show. As of last year, the medium-sized cast was going to include Linda Lavin, Shuler Hensley and Sierra Boggess.
