The Broadway League announced earlier this week that masking would be optional at theaters starting July 1, but for audience members attending "American Buffalo," the policy is still masks on.

Producers announced Friday due to the proximity of the audience to the actors in the 693-seat Circle in the Square Theatre and the show's staging in the round, audiences will continue to be required to wear masks in this space. Sam Rockwell, Laurence Fishburne and Darren Criss star in the revival of the David Mamet play, which will end its limited run on July 10.

"American Buffalo," which first ran on Broadway in 1977, centers on the owner of a junk shop who sells a buffalo nickel to a customer for $90 and then plots to steal it back when he discovers its true value. The show returned to Broadway in 1983 with Al Pacino starring. A 2008 Broadway revival with the unlikely starring trio of Cedric the Entertainer, Haley Joel Osment and John Leguizamo closed after eight performances.
