Bay Street announces two summer shows for 2019

There’s something old, something new on the summer schedule at Bay Street in Sag Harbor this summer. Artistic director Scott Schwartz has announced the theater’s opening and closing productions—the middle show is still a mystery.
Opening the season is “Safe Space,” a new play by Alan Fox, to be directed a Broadway heavyweight, three-time Tony winner Jack O’Brien (“Hairspray,” “The Coast of Utopia”). The play is set on the campus of an elite university, where an African American professor is accused of racism. It runs May 28-June 16.
“There’s No Business Like Show Business,” go the Irving Berlin lyrics from “Annie Get Your Gun,” which will close the season July 30-August 25. Director Sarna Lapine, who staged Bay Street’s “Frost/Nixon” last summer, promises “the most revolutionary Annie Oakley you’ve ever seen.”
“With the world premiere of a searing new play directed by one of America’s leading theater artists, and a visionary revival of a classic musical directed by a rising star,” said Schwartz in a statement, “Bay Street … will be the talk of the East End all summer long.” Cast have yet to be announced, but season subscriptions are available at baystreet.org.
