"Beetlejuice" is saying bye. The Broadway musical based on filmmaker Tim Burton's 1988 horror-comedy about a mischievously malevolent spirit is closing on Jan. 8.

"We're ghosting Broadway!" the show's social media announced Tuesday, giving the final date. "And don't worry," the posts reassured, "there are more show times in our future!," referring to the national tour that begins in December and is scheduled to run through October 2023.

Starring Alex Brightman as the title character, a demon who teams with a morbid teen to try to frighten her parents into leaving a haunted house, "Beetlejuice" premiered April 25, 2019, after 27 previews. It played 366 regular performances at the Winter Garden Theatre until Broadway went dark the following March due to the coronavirus pandemic. Performances resumed this April at the Marquis Theatre.

When the current Broadway run ends, "Beetlejuice" will have played 679 regular performances between the two productions.

The initial production earned eight Tony Award nominations, including for best musical, best book of a musical and best actor in a musical leading role.

"Do I even need to say it? Love you guys," star Brightman, a 2016 Tony nominee for "School of Rock — The Musical," tweeted Tuesday to the show's fans.
