Dove Cameron misses 'Clueless' performances, and more theater news

THE SHOW "Clueless, the Musical"
THE DEAL Dove Cameron, who plays Cher in the musical adaptation of the 1995 movie at the Pershing Square Signature Center, has missed a string of recent performances because of neck and back injuries. On social media, Cameron flashed a photograph of her hospital bracelet and responded forcefully to online users who criticized her as “lazy” for being absent from the show. “The impulse to punish, degrade and make an artist feel guilty for prioritizing their health over a few shows is not only inappropriate, but it is insane, objectifying and a bad example to others,” Cameron wrote on Instagram. “Clueless” ends its sold-out limited run on Jan. 12.

THE DEAL Broadway wrapped up the year by breaking multiple box-office records. The week of Dec. 24-30 was the highest grossing and most attended week in Broadway history, bringing in a total of $57.8 million from 378,910 audience members. “Hamilton” grossed just more than $4 million, a record for a single show. “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” set the record for highest-grossing play at $2.4 million. And Disney musicals “The Lion King,” “Frozen” and “Aladdin” all broke house records. Broadway grossed $1.8 billion for the year.
THE SHOW "The Lifespan of a Fact"
THE DEAL Fact: “The Lifespan of a Fact” is officially a hit. The Broadway comedy in which Daniel Radcliffe, Bobby Cannavale and Cherry Jones engage in a fiery debate over journalism, ethics and the truth, has recouped its investment costs, making it a hit by traditional Broadway standards. It will play its final performance at Studio 54 on Jan. 13 following a limited 16-week engagement.
THE SHOW "Be More Chill"
THE DEAL The entire Off-Broadway cast of the sci-fi teen musical “Be More Chill” will make the journey to Broadway, including Will Roland (“Dear Evan Hansen”), George Salazar (“Godspell”), Gerard Canonico (“Spring Awakening”), Jason Tam (“KPOP”) and Stephanie Hsu (“SpongeBob SquarePants”). It begins previews at the Lyceum Theatre on Feb. 13 and opens on March 10.
