‘Hamilton’ star Lin-Manuel Miranda leaving the musical, reports say

Time may be running out for theatergoers to see Lin-Manuel Miranda wear the britches in “Hamilton.” According to multiple reports, the creator, composer and star of the mega-smash musical has set July 9 as his last appearance so he can work on other projects.
This would be less than a month after the June 12 Tony telecast where the show will be competing with a record 16 nominations. But it also will be a respectable year and a half since Miranda and most of the cast began performing it at the Public Theater in January 2015.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, contracts for Miranda and many of the original actors will expire July 9. Cast members, who already have an unprecedented new profit-sharing deal with the producers, are reportedly looking for raises.
The entertainment news site, thewrap.com, also reported the news, citing sources in Miranda’s camp.
Miranda will not be at a loss for things to do. In addition to preparing the show for multiple touring productions, he is writing the screenplay for The Weinstein Co. movie adaptation of his first musical, the 2008 Tony-winning “In the Heights.” He will star with Emily Blunt in Disney’s “Mary Poppins Returns” and has already written the music for Disney’s animated musical, “Moana.”
The show’s representative did not answer Newsday’s request for confirmation.
