Laura Benanti replacing Lauren Ambrose in 'My Fair Lady'

Harry Hadden-Paton, who plays Henry Higgins in the Broadway revival of "My Fair Lady," will have to get accustomed to a new face when Laura Benanti takes over for Lauren Ambrose as Eliza Doolittle.

Tony winner Benanti will join the Lincoln Center Theater's production on Oct. 23 as a replacement for Ambrose, who will be leaving to star in M. Night Shyamalan's new series for Apple. Benanti is scheduled to stay with the show through Feb. 17. Ambrose's final performance will be on Oct. 21.

“Eliza Doolittle has been my dream role for as long as I can remember,” Benanti said in a statement, “so I couldn’t be more excited to join this brilliant company. Working with Bart [director Bartlett Sher] and getting to be part of this show is a dream come true.”

Benanti, who won a Tony Award in 2008 for playing Louise in "Gypsy," most recently appeared on Broadway in last fall's "Meteor Shower," written by Steve Martin and starring Amy Schumer.

Benanti is not the only new face coming to "My Fair Lady." Earlier this month it was announced that veteran actress Rosemary Harris would replace Diana Rigg as Henry Higgins' mum starting on Sept. 11.
