‘Mean Girls’ Broadway musical sets spring 2018 premiere date

“Mean Girls,” the 2004 movie that helped propel Lindsay Lohan up the celebrity ladder, is coming to Broadway.
Tina Fey, who wrote the film, is doing the book for the musical, which starts previews on March 12 at the August Wilson Theatre, with opening night set for April 8. That’s the same theater (bad omen?) where another movie musical, “Groundhog Day,” closes on Sept. 17.
The movie’s fans will find the musical “true to the spirit” of the story, Fey told Entertainment Weekly, noting that the songs are “very catchy.” No surprise that — the composer is her husband, Jeff Richmond. Stars in the show, which opens a tryout in Washington, D.C., on Oct. 31, include Taylor Louderman, Ashley Park and Kate Rockwell as the infamous Plastics, and Erika Henningsen, in Lohan’s role, as Cady Heron.
