"Good People," David Lindsay-Abaire's drama about working-class people in South Boston, has won the New York Drama Critics Circle Award for best play. "The Book of Mormon," the first show by Trey Parker and Matt Stone of "South Park," was named best musical. "Jerusalem," Jez Butterworth's English serio-comedy, won for best foreign play, an option when an American play gets the top prize.
Special citations will go to "War Horse" for its direction, design and puppetry; to the revival of "The Normal Heart," and to Mark Rylance for career achievements, including performances in "Jerusalem" and "La Bete."
The critics circle comprises 24 critics from newspapers, magazines and wire services in the tri-state area. Awards will be presented Monday at a private ceremony.
