Patti LuPone’s debut at the John W. Engeman Theater just got twice as exciting. Due to overwhelming demand for tickets to the Northport native’s debut performance at the venue in her hometown on Jan. 23, a second show, which will also benefit Northport High School’s performing arts department, was added for Jan. 24. Both shows sold out in less than 20 minutes on Monday morning.

“She was very generous in making another performance happen,” says Kevin O’Neill, the Engeman’s owner and managing director. “Now it will enable 400 more people to see her and it will raise that much more money for the Northport high school.”

A lottery for tickets to the first show, was held on Wednesday for Engeman subscribers. After that, LuPone agreed to do an encore of her show, “Don’t Monkey With Broadway,” in which the Tony-winner LuPone will sing classics by Cole Porter and other legendary composers. Members of the Northport High School choir will share the stage with her.

O’Neill says people arrived at the theater as early as 7 a.m. on Monday even though tickets didn’t go on sale until 10. There is a waiting list, in case of cancellations, for those still interested in getting tickets.
