"Proud Mary" won't keep on burning on Broadway much longer. Producers of "Tina — The Tina Turner Musical" announced Tuesday that the show will play its final performance at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre on Aug. 14.
"Tina" chronicles the life and career of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame performer, including her tumultuous marriage and working relationship with Ike Turner. It also features nearly two dozen songs including "Proud Mary," "What's Love Got to Do With It" and "Private Dancer."
Nkeki Obi-Melekwe currently stars as the music diva.
“To witness my story on the Broadway stage, created by the most talented artists, has been an incredible coda to a storied career,” Tina Turner said in a statement.
"Tina" opened in November 2019 and garnered 12 Tony nominations including best musical. Adrienne Warren, who originated the Broadway role, won the best actress Tony.
When the show closes, it will have played 27 previews and 482 regular performances. A 30-city national tour of "Tina" is set to begin on Sept. 14 in Providence, Rhode Island.
