'30 Rock' to end next season

"30 Rock," one of the great comedies of  TV history, with the multiple Emmys to prove it, will end next season. The network has now confirmed what has been rumored for days, and in fact a year, if you choose to believe (I did) Alec Baldwin's prediction a while ago that the end was nigh. 

 "30 Rock has been picked up for its final season," per an  NBC spokeswoman, and that is that. The show will air over only 13 episodes (this season was shortened as well) and no word yet on where those episodes will air or when. A report surfaced earlier this week that "30" would be moved to Wednesdays.

 Meanwhile, the fates continue to swirl around "Parks & Rec" and "Community." And yes, even "The Office" is in a strange gray area, though it is almost certain to return, while key stars are believed close to signing -- or have already signed -- deals to return.

NBC ordered a large number of comedies this year - Ryan Murphy's new show has already been ordered -- with the expectation that this would be the schedule NBC Entertainment boss Bob Greenblatt would put his own stamp upon. And the more comedies ordered, the fewer spots for shows with nominal numbers, like "Community." 

  "Parenthood" did just get an order, so it'll be back for a fourth season.
