'American Idol' starts its Las Vegas round with a twist -- 10 of the remaining 20 female contestants will sing Wednesday night, with five getting cut and five moving on to the semifinals. They can pick any song they want for this new sudden death round, at least.

High school junior Jenny Beth Willis up first, in a burlesque-like pink and black flouncy dress, singing "Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love." It's hokey and not compelling for me, almost like she's speaking the words rather than singing. Don't think she's going to be moving on; does hold the last note well.

Jamaica, Queens' Tenna Torres -- who went to Carey's camp as a kid -- is in a spangly dark short dress that seems dated, singing "Soulmate." She has a good voice but it doesn't touch me, like I'm watching a tape from the '70s.

"Now the night has started!" Urban says, calling it "so damn good." Minaj says she "commands the stage," loves how she had "no fear." Jackson says she's "born to do this," calls her a pro and says he loved it. Latonio tells Carey "it went better than I thought it would," and then Carey gives her an A+.
