Amber Holcomb tops injury-plagued 'American Idol'

The judging was all over the place, with even Nicki Minaj joining the happy talk, alternate -reality universe that Mariah Carey lives in and Randy Jackson likes to visit.

1. Amber Holcomb's "What About Love" was flat-out fantastic -- she sounded and looked like a rock star, just effortlessly shredding it. As Minaj said, it "pulled me in emotionally," it was "striking."

2. Candice Glover owned the stage on "I Can't Get No Satisfaction," projecting the essence of rock with her confidence, energy and vocal control.

3. Lazaro Arbos made his return with "We Are the Champions," showing off some confidence and strong vocals for the first time in the finals. As Urban said, the song choice played into his "dramatics, in a good way."

4. Kree Harrison's "Piece of My Heart" was OK, as Urban sussed out she was "holding back" due to a pinched nerve after Jackson and Carey obliviously praised her effusively.

5. Angie Miller's "Bring Me to Life" didn't quite gel for me; Urban told her to make sure "when you choose these songs that you feel it" and don't be so concerned about projecting an image.

6. Burnell Taylor's "You Give Love a Bad Name" was probably his worst of the season; as Urban said, it was the "most uncomfortable" he's seemed all year.

7. Janelle Arthur's slowed-down "You May Be Right" was horrible in my opinion; the judges spent more time talking about her rhinestone boots than the performance, which they tried to sugarcoat.
