By the time you get to the final seven of "American Idol," you can sometimes get a fix on who's got the goods to go all the way - and our winner after "21st Century Songs" appears to very much be James Durbin.

This finally is his to lose - I think he's got the voice, the appeal, the appropriate dramatic stage chops, and most of all the talent. Wednesday night's song ("Uprising") from Muse established him as the unquestioned front-runner. Could "Idol" go with a country  twang - Scotty McCreery or Lauren Alaina? McCreery maybe, but the judges constant harping on her refusal to take chances has got to be resonating with voters on some level.

But I think Durbin has the much broader appeal anyway. There are six or so weeks to go, but at this point,  he's the winner.
