'Car 54': There you are on DVD
CAR 54, WHERE ARE YOU?
SERIES "There's a holdup in the Bronx/Brooklyn's broken out in fights" starts one of TV's classic theme songs, as premiered in 1961 and encored at the late '80s dawn of Nick at Nite. Fred Gwynne, Joe E. Ross, Al Lewis and their beat-cop buddies still deliver laugh-out-loud antics in simple plots of mistaken identity, well-meaning bungling and slow-burn vexation. Anybody notice how these plots usually mushroom around "nothing"? (Bonus for old-timers: spotting vintage locations near the black-and-white show's Bronx studio.)
EXTRAS Robert Klein hosts a new chat with Charlotte Rae (Sylvia Schnauser) and Hank Garrett (Officer Nicholson).
LIST PRICE $40 for 30 episodes on four discs, out today from Shanachie.
