“Star Trek” film-series star Chris Pine will play Robert F. Kennedy in a Hulu miniseries about the one-time attorney general, U.S. senator and assassinated Democratic presidential contender.

Deadline.com said Tuesday that Pine, 37, most recently seen in “Wonder Woman,” would star in the as-yet-untitled project based on Larry Tye’s 2016 biography, “Bobby Kennedy: The Making of a Liberal Icon.” Todd Ellis Kessler, a co-executive producer on the first season of CBS’ “The Good Wife” and of ABC’s 2011-2012 period drama “Pan Am,” will script.

Pine, upcoming in Ava DuVernay’s “A Wrinkle in Time” and currently shooting David Mackenzie’s “Outlaw King,” has played recurring roles this year in the Netflix series “Wet Hot American Summer: Ten Years Later” and TBS’ “Angie Tribeca.” TNT announced in July that Pine will reteam with “Wonder Woman” director Patty Jenkins on the six-episode miniseries “One Day She’ll Darken,” the fact-based story of Fauna Hodel, who was given away by her teenage birth mother to an African-American restroom attendant in Nevada in 1949. Pine stars as a present-day paparazzo delving into Hodel’s past and a connection to Los Angeles’ infamous Black Dahlia murder. It is scheduled to shoot this fall.

Hulu last year produced “11.22.63,” an eight-episode science-fiction miniseries in which a time-traveling high-school teacher attempted to prevent the assassination of President John F. Kennedy, Robert Kennedy’s older brother.

Robert Kennedy was the U.S. attorney general during the JFK administration, and was New York’s junior senator when he was shot June 5, 1968, while seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, and died the next day.
