Curt Menefee, "Fox NFL Sunday" host and co-anchor of WNYW/ 5's "Good Day New York," announced Tuesday he'll drop the Ch. 5 role on Dec. 19.

"Wanted to make a little personal news," Menefee said on the show just before 7:30 Tuesday morning. "January will be two years since I've been doing 'Good Day New York', but I'm not coming back in 2026," he said.

A surprise, indeed, just as his original appointment was. Menefee, 60, joined Ch. 5's long-running morning franchise in 2024 as a replacement for Bianca Peters, who went off to anchor other Ch. 5 programs. Menefee, an Atlanta native who lived in California where he'd hosted Fox's pregame show since 2007, had once co-anchored the station's 10 p.m. broadcast, also alongside Rosanna Scotto. But still ... six days a week, and constant cross country travel as a bonus?

At the time, Menefee shrugged off the travel issue, saying in a statement), "This full circle moment is a dream come true. There’s no place like New York. No place. I can’t wait to get back to the energy of the city, the culture, the restaurants, the people, everything that makes it the greatest city in the world."

In fact, his transition to daily anchoring appeared seamless. But Tuesday morning, he acknowledged the reality — that cross-country travel is indeed brutal week after week, especially when you've also got a much bigger Sunday job to attend to.

On Tuesday's edition, he said "this is the life I've chosen — I'm not complaining — but at some point you've got to make an adjustment."

"It's been a great time. The staff has been wonderful. You have been welcoming. It's just the back and forth. I think a lot of people know, I've stayed on the west coast, [and] go out and do 'Fox NFL Sunday' which I'll continue to do. You'll just catch me on Fox Sports on the weekends and not Monday through Friday."

Victoria Gurrieri, Ch. 5.'s spokesperson, said an "internal and external search is underway" to find his replacement.
