"The Office" wraps Thursday night with an episode entitled "Free Family Portrait Studio," but this being a little over a year since Steve Carell left, it's reasonable to wonder whether this capper will do anything to commemorate that sad and sacred event.
The show, as shows are wont to do, has teased the idea a little, with one line sent to the press not long ago saying that one of Andy Bernard's (Ed Helms) former bosses will return.
Of course, that could one of many -- Josh (the Stamford office) or Jan, or who-knows-who. Nevertheless, it's still fun to play with this idea: What if Michael Scott does make a very brief appearance Thursday night? Imagine the joy in Scranton over this.
A possibility? I think a remote one. Highly remote. This big a cameo -- even for a minute, a second! -- would have been hyped by the network in some clever way to boost tune-in. But still.
Check out the promo below, and scroll to 14 seconds in, where Andy says something to the effect of You're gonna be surprised at this special guest...
Anyway, that's what she said.
Meanwhile, the log line: Dwight gives free portraits, and a diaper is stolen. There's a high-speed car chase in here somewhere; Andy pretends to be a janitor; there's an office coup of some sort and Robert California bids farewell. Nellie Bertram? She's here in all her glory, too.
