NOW-OCT. 31 31 Days of Halloween (Syfy): Six hundred hours of scares include After Dark Horrorfest premieres "The Task" and "Prowl" (Sunday at 7 and 9 p.m.), plus Ving Rhames in the new movie "Zombie Apocalypse" (Oct. 29 at 9 p.m.).

NOW-OCT. 31 FearFest (AMC): The 15th year, hosted by "Night of the Living Dead" director George A. Romero, begins with Sunday's 9 p.m. return of "The Walking Dead," also includes Romero's "Survival of the Dead" (Monday at 8 p.m.) and John Carpenter's classic "Halloween" (Oct. 24 at 8 p.m.), plus vintage B-flicks streaming at amctv.com/movie-event/amc-fearfest.

WEDNESDAY-OCT. 31 13 Nights of Halloween (ABC Family): Kicks off with Wednesday's "Pretty Little Liars" Halloween episode (11 a.m.-9 p.m.), also includes "Coraline" (next Sunday at 8 p.m.) and "Bewitched" (Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m.).

FRIDAY-OCT. 31 10 Nights of Fright (Nickelodeon): New holiday "SpongeBob SquarePants" (8 p.m.) leads it all off.

TUESDAY "Scream Awards" (9-11 p.m., Spike): Annual ceremony taped Saturday salutes "Harry Potter" franchise, Robert Downey Jr., Nicolas Cage.

OCT. 24 "Martha Stewart's Haunted House" (8 p.m., Hallmark): Make-your-own tips.

OCT. 28 "Horror's Creepiest Kids" (8 p.m., Chiller): This 90-minute special counts down terror tots from "The Shining," "The Exorcist," etc.

OCT. 31 "Ghost Hunters Halloween Live" (7 p.m.-1 a.m., Syfy): Live hunt at Pennsylvania's abandoned mental institution Pennhurst Asylum.

 

 

THE MOVIES

MONDAY NIGHTS IN OCTOBER Classic horror on Turner Classic Movies includes this week's '50s chillers ("House on Haunted Hill" at 9:30 p.m.) and next week's indie flicks ("Carnival of Souls," Oct. 24 at 8 p.m.).

SATURDAY "Fred 2: Night of the Living Fred" (8 p.m., Nickelodeon): Fred suspects new music teacher is a vampire.

SATURDAY "Oliver's Ghost" (9 p.m., Hallmark): Martin Mull and Rhea Perlman help tween boy who sees ghosts.

OCT. 29 "Possessing Piper Rose" (8 p.m., Lifetime): Rebecca Romijn as an adoptive mother whose little girl acts strange.

OCT. 29 "The Good Witch's Family" (9 p.m., Hallmark): Catherine Bell sees a long-lost cousin who stirs up trouble.

OCT. 28-29 Fright nights on TCM (spotlight on Val Lewton classics Oct. 29 starts with "Cat People" at 8 p.m.).

OCT. 30 "The Stand" (2-10 p.m., 10 p.m.-6 a.m., Chiller): Stephen King miniseries in its entirety.

OCT. 31 More TCM horror classics include George Romero's 1968 "Night of the Living Dead" (9:30 p.m.), new portrait "The Horrors of Stephen King" (11:15 p.m.).

CARTOON NETWORK Halloween themes in new episodes Monday nights 7-9ish through October, with freaky flicks and spooky specials Saturday-Sunday nights.
