Harry Smith, the longtime co-anchor of "The Early Show" and veteran of CBS News, has joined NBC News. The news was reported last week, but NBC just made the official announcement. He'll contribute to that new live NBC News primetime magazine headed by Brian Williams.
Not too much is known about this new venture, other than the fact that it will be live; that's an interesting departure, and not one without risks. considering the fact that other primetime news mags (like "Now" and "Primetime Live") have tried and rejected this approach before.
