Rick Jason, left, and Vic Morrow in the 1960s World War II drama "Combat."

Veterans Day may take on even more meaning this year as we observe the 70th anniversary of the end of World War II. Here are five TV series that were set during that conflict:

COMBAT! (1962-67) -- The best-known of TV's World War II series starred Vic Morrow and Rick Jason as members of an American Army platoon fighting its way across Europe after D-Day.

GARRISON'S GORILLAS (1967-68) -- Reminiscent of "The Dirty Dozen," this drama followed a group of skilled U.S. commandos who were recruited from prisons to fight the Germans.

MCHALE'S NAVY (1962-66) -- Essentially "Sgt. Bilko" set during World War II, instead of peacetime, this comedy starred Ernest Borgnine as the commander of a South Pacific-based PT boat filled with a wacky crew.

THE RAT PATROL (1966-68) -- This North Africa-set drama followed the exploits of four Allied soldiers battling German Gen. Rommel's Afrika Korps.

TWELVE O'CLOCK HIGH (1964-67) -- Robert Lansing starred in this drama that focused on the 918th Bombardment Group of the U.S. Eighth Air Force, stationed near London. It was based on a 1949 movie of the same name starring Gregory Peck.
