Last night's "How I Met Your Mother" a-rhyming it did go, confirming fears of fans that this season's stretched like a bow.
The conceit was clever, kinda sweet, the idea certainly not un-fun, but before the first commercial break, you also sensed its course had run.
If you missed, the plot's a cinch, poor Marshall's in a pinch:
On a bus to far points east, his kid's a whiny grinch.
How to get the kid to sleep before dad goes insane?
Simple, easy, no big deal: you make words sound the same!
Making words rhyme is not that hard, because our language is full of duplication.
Plus lots of words sound like other words, even prestidigitation.
What's especially hard is avoiding pretense -- or as this blog post makes abundantly clear, making any sense.
What did this have to do with Barney and Robin's wedding in 20 hours or so?
Nothing, nada, not a thing -- just 22 minutes of words that rhyme with "blow."
But give 'em credit, take a bow --- this rhymin' thing ain't easy.
And I guess we should all be grateful this wasn't done to singin.'
