'Hung,' 'Bored to Death' axed

"Hung," which coincidentally scored a Golden Globe nomination for star Tom Jane, just got a cancellation notice. Also receiving said notices: "How to Make It in America" and "Bored to Death." (Too bad about the latter, though, truth to tell, I haven't watched it this season.)

To me, "Hung" -- a show predicated on a ridiculous and even vaguely stupid idea -- is hardly a tragic demise.

Meanwhile, this: "Enlightened," Laura Dern's mystifying California-dreamin' dramedy, got a pick-up. No surprise there at all. Critics, save the one you are reading right now, have bathed it in glowing tributes, while the Hollywood Foreign Press Association handed it a couple of Golden Globe noms, too. 

That leaves "How to Make It in America." I was a bit of a fan in its initial run and thought it used its New York locale effectively; also, liked Bryan Greenberg in the lead. But ... viewers clearly never followed, and the second season was so under-promoted by HBO that it might as well have entered the witness protection program.
